PRECEDEX INJECTION 200mcg amp, containing Dexmedetomidine Hydrochloride, is a highly effective sedative and analgesic medication primarily used in intensive care and surgical settings. It is designed to provide sedation for initially intubated and mechanically ventilated patients during treatment in intensive care units. Additionally, it is used for sedation of non-intubated patients prior to or during surgical and other procedures.

This medication works by selectively stimulating alpha-2 adrenergic receptors in the brain, which results in a calming effect without significant respiratory depression. This makes it a safer option compared to other sedatives, especially for patients requiring careful monitoring of their breathing. PRECEDEX INJECTION is known for its ability to produce a cooperative, sedated state where patients can be easily aroused and are capable of following commands.

  • Precise Dosage: Available in a 200mcg ampoule, it allows for accurate dosing tailored to individual patient needs.

  • Flexible Administration: Can be administered via continuous infusion or as a loading dose, providing flexibility in clinical use.

  • Reduced Risk of Respiratory Depression: Unlike other sedatives, it minimally affects respiratory function, making it ideal for critical care.

  • Rapid Onset and Offset: Offers quick sedation with a relatively short recovery time, enhancing patient management.

  • Compatibility: Can be used alongside other medications, ensuring comprehensive patient care.

PRECEDEX INJECTION is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Dexmedetomidine or any of its components. It should be used with caution in patients with advanced heart block, severe ventricular dysfunction, or hepatic impairment. Common side effects include hypotension, bradycardia, and dry mouth, which are generally manageable with appropriate medical supervision.

Overall, PRECEDEX INJECTION 200mcg amp is a reliable and versatile medication for sedation in critical care and procedural settings, offering a balance of efficacy and safety for patients and healthcare providers alike.

PRECEDEX INJECTION (Dexmedetomidine Hydrochloride) is a sedative medication used in clinical settings for short-term sedation of initially intubated and mechanically ventilated patients during intensive care. It is also used for sedation before and during surgical procedures. Below are detailed instructions for its proper use:

  1. Preparation:

    • Ensure the solution is clear and free from particles before administration.

    • Dilute the 200 mcg/mL concentration in 0.9% sodium chloride injection to achieve the required dosage.

    • For ICU sedation, dilute 2 mL (400 mcg) of PRECEDEX in 48 mL of 0.9% sodium chloride for a final concentration of 8 mcg/mL.

    • For procedural sedation, dilute 2 mL (400 mcg) in 98 mL of 0.9% sodium chloride for a final concentration of 4 mcg/mL.

  2. Administration:

    • Administer using a controlled infusion device to ensure accurate dosing.

    • For ICU sedation, initiate with a loading infusion of 1 mcg/kg over 10 minutes, followed by a maintenance infusion of 0.2–0.7 mcg/kg/hour.

    • For procedural sedation, initiate with a loading infusion of 1 mcg/kg over 10 minutes, followed by a maintenance infusion of 0.6 mcg/kg/hour.

    • Adjust the infusion rate based on the patient's response and clinical need.

  3. Monitoring:

    • Continuously monitor vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.

    • Watch for signs of hypotension, bradycardia, or respiratory depression.

    • Be prepared to intervene with supportive measures if adverse reactions occur.

  4. Discontinuation:

    • Gradually reduce the infusion rate to avoid rebound hypertension or agitation.

    • Do not abruptly stop the infusion, as this may lead to withdrawal effects.

  5. Storage:

    • Store unopened ampules at controlled room temperature (20–25°C).

    • Use diluted solutions immediately or within a few hours, as stability may vary.
