LOVENOX Injection (Enoxaparin) is an anticoagulant used to prevent and treat blood clots. To ensure safe and effective use, follow these detailed instructions.
Before administering LOVENOX, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water to minimize the risk of infection.
Gather all necessary supplies, including the LOVENOX syringe, alcohol swabs, and a sharps container for disposal.
Choose an injection site. The recommended areas are the fatty layer of skin on your abdomen, at least 2 inches away from your navel, or the outer thigh.
Using an alcohol swab, clean the injection site in a circular motion and allow it to air dry completely.
Remove the syringe from its packaging. Do not touch the needle to maintain sterility. Check the solution for clarity and color; it should be clear and colorless to pale yellow.
Pinch the skin around the injection site to create a fold. Hold the syringe like a pencil and insert the needle at a 90-degree angle to the skin.
Inject the medication slowly and steadily. Do not aspirate (pull back on the plunger) as it is not necessary with LOVENOX.
Once the injection is complete, withdraw the needle quickly and apply gentle pressure to the injection site with a cotton ball or gauze.
Do not rub the injection site after administering the injection to avoid bruising.
Dispose of the syringe in a sharps container immediately after use to prevent needle-stick injuries.
Wash your hands again after disposing of the syringe to maintain hygiene.
