ALPHAGAN 0.1% (Brimonidine Tartrate) is an eye drop solution used primarily to treat elevated intraocular pressure in individuals with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. To use this medication effectively, follow these detailed instructions:
Before using ALPHAGAN, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water to prevent contamination.
Shake the bottle gently to ensure the solution is well-mixed.
Remove the cap from the bottle and take care not to touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, including your eye, to maintain sterility.
Position yourself comfortably, either sitting or standing. Tilt your head back slightly and look upwards.
Using your index finger, pull down your lower eyelid gently to create a small pocket.
Hold the bottle upside down above your eye. Squeeze the bottle gently to instill one drop of ALPHAGAN into the pocket created by your lower eyelid. Avoid blinking or squeezing your eyes shut.
If you are prescribed more than one drop, wait at least 5-10 minutes before applying the next drop to allow proper absorption.
After administering the drop, close your eyes for a minute or two. You may gently press on the inner corner of your eye (near the nose) with a finger to prevent the solution from draining away.
Replace the cap on the bottle immediately after use to avoid contamination.
Store ALPHAGAN at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Regularly visit your healthcare provider for check-ups to monitor your eye pressure and ensure the treatment is effective.
Always follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the use of ALPHAGAN and report any side effects or concerns promptly.
