To use the ADVAIR Inhaler (Salmeterol/Fluticasone Propionate) effectively, follow these detailed steps:
Before using the inhaler, shake it well for about 5 seconds to ensure the medication is properly mixed.
Remove the cap from the mouthpiece and inspect it to ensure it is clean and free of any debris or foreign objects.
Hold the inhaler upright with your thumb at the base and index and middle fingers on the top, ensuring that you do not block the vent located on the side.
Exhale gently to empty your lungs. This prepares your airways for the medication.
Place the mouthpiece in your mouth, sealing your lips around it without biting it.
As you begin to inhale slowly and deeply through your mouth, press down on the top of the inhaler to release a dose of medication.
Continue to inhale deeply for about 3 to 5 seconds to ensure the medication reaches your lungs.
After inhaling, remove the inhaler from your mouth and hold your breath for about 10 seconds to allow the medication to settle in your lungs.
Exhale slowly and gently. If your doctor has prescribed more than one puff, wait for about 30 seconds before repeating steps 4 to 8.
After using the inhaler, rinse your mouth with water to prevent irritation and reduce the risk of oral thrush.
Replace the cap on the mouthpiece and store the inhaler in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
It is important to follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the frequency and dosage of the inhaler. Do not exceed the recommended dose, and consult your doctor if you experience any side effects or if your symptoms do not improve.
